Little Black Bag HAUL!

13 Apr

I can’t tell you how stoked I was to see this big, beautiful, black and white box sitting on my porch when I came home today. There’s been a lot of talk about LBB‘s new policies and the changes they’ve made lately, but I have so say that from my perspective it was an improvement.

I got my first box from them last month and, to be honest, it was a bit of a disappointment. This time around, I took a leap of faith, and purchased a bigger item and it was so worth it.

My main reason for the purchase was that I wanted a brighter, bolder, purse for spring. I chose this pretty baby:

Steve Madden Woven Satchel – Retail Value $98.00

On LBBv, I paid $49.95 (plus shipping) for it and got all of the following as well:

1928 Horseshoe Earrings – Retail Value $26

SAMSUNGLemon Cosmopolitan Shortie Socks – Retail values $7

Be Fine Packette Box – Retail Value $12

I can’t wait to wear the earrings. They are so dainty and having spent a lot of my early years in Las Vegas, I’m obsessed with anything with a luck theme. The socks were a gift for VIP members. They’d be really cute with a skirt and a pair of kitten heels.

I’m stoked to try the Be Fine Packettes. They are really big and it seems like I could get more than one use from some of them.

Included were

  • Gentle Cleanser with sugar, mint, oats, and rice
  • SPF 15 Daily Moisturizer with rosemary, pomegranate, and rice
  • Night Cream with cocoa, millet, rice, & bran
  • Exfoliating Cleanser with brown sugar, sweet almond, & oats
  • Pore Refining Treatment Scrub with coconut, jojoba, and citrus
  • Warming Clay Mask with cardamom, arnica, and pomegranate

If nothing else, I’ll smell good enough to eat.

I really think that Little Black Bag is such a fun way to shop and the recent changes are a huge improvement. Plus, they always have really fun bonus gifts with purchase for members. Such a treat!

Conscious Box Review, April 2013

13 Apr

I was fortunate to snag a hell of a deal on this one, so I had to have it!

The Box: Conscious Box – Natural beauty, health food, and non-toxic home goods. Vegan and gluten-free options are available.

  • NurturMe Dried Baby Food

  • Sappo Hill All Vegetable Oil Glyceryne Creme Soap – Lavender
  • Happy Family Brands Happy Squeeze – Strawberry Coconut Milk

Llwynog Says:

I was a little disappointed that there was a lot of like “kid/baby” type stuff since thats not really useful for me. It would be great if Conscious Box could implement some sort of profile or preference system since I’m sure there are people who love baby stuff and others like myself who have no use for it. I’ll probably toss the lotion in my desk drawer or something, one can never have too much spare lotion.  I also can’t really drum up any interest in the supplements and whey. I’ll pass those along to a friend.

I am, however, really excited to try the Seventh Generation Facial Cleansing Cloth. I love their products! And Celestial Tea! Yay!

My bottle of detergent seems to be about half empty, but its plenty for a few loads of laundry even still and the smell is fab so I’m looking forward to giving that a shot. Not a big bar soap user, but I’ll put this little lavender one away for another day. I’m really confused by the Omega-3 Squeeze. Do you take it like a gooey shot? Dissolve it in water? I’m clueless. I’ve had another flavor of Happy Squeeze before, so I’ll enjoy trying this one, even though I hate their packaging. Anything coconut has to be good though, right?

Total value: Cannot be determined.

QVC New Beauty Test Tube Review, April 2013

13 Apr

I was a little confused by this sub at first because there seem to be two versions; the standard New Beauty Test Tube, and another version offered via QVC. Mine was purchased from QVC.

Price: $29.96 + $6.47 S&H

Items Included:

  • 1-fl oz Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel ($34.09)
  • 6-fl oz WEN by Chaz Dean Replenishing Treatment Mist – Fig FULL SIZE! ($27.00)
  • 0.04-oz tarte Skinny smolderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner – Sunstone Bronze FULL SIZE! ($19.00)
  • 1-fl oz Peter Thomas Roth Antiaging Cleansing Gel – Travel size ($2.43)
  • 0.39-fl oz Mally Beauty Volumizing Mascara in Black FULL SIZE! ($20.00)
  • 0.4-fl oz philosophy hope in a jar night – Travel size (?)

Not sure about the values on the Argan oil and hope in a jar, math is not my forte, but both are nice sized samples as you can see from the photo. The magazine has a price on it of $9.95, but I’ve never seen it in any store and I chucked it in the recycling after a quick flip-through revealed it was 98% advertisements.

Llwynog Says:

Definitely good value for the money! Also, it was really nice that this is a box you can just order and get in a few days instead of waiting several weeks for it. Although, its not as much fun to know in advance what you’re getting, it is somewhat of a relief to know I will get more than what I pay for.

– The Algenist peel may be re-gifted. It looks nice, but I already have a ton of a similar product from Mary Kay that I forget to use.

– I’m really interested in the WEN hair mist. I’m not really sure what to use it for, but the fig scent is really nice, if a little strong at first. The literature says to spritz it in the mid-to-ends of your hair and rake it through to add moisture, or use as a leave in conditioner. There is also an interesting suggestion to use it as a make-up finishing spray or even as a moisturizing body spray. Interesting. I like anything that can multitask.

– The tarte eyeliner is FANTASTIC! I used it this morning and it stayed put all day. Normally with smudgy/smoky eyeliner it either fades or smudges where you dont want it. This one sat still and the one I received was a nice bronze-y shade that complemented the neutral shades I typically wear to work. I’m not certain what’s special about Amazonian Clay, but I’ll take it.

– I see Mally on QVC all the time when I’m channel surfing and I can’t ever tell if I love or hate her.  But, I was really interested to try this mascara. I used it today, and as advertised it did not flake. However, I don’t think it was any more spectacular than a standard drug store mascara that’s half the price. Nice to have it included in the tube though, it will definitely get used.

– Peter Thomas Roth cleansing gel: smells nice, will be good to throw in with my travel stuff.

– I’m not really in the age bracket for the philosophy hope in a jar night cream, but I will give it a try. The literature promises that it will “wake up to beautiful skin and a radiant complexion”, which I think anyone would like to take advantage of.

– I’ve been hearing so much about argan oil lately, I was really excited to get this Josie Maran deluxe sample size. A little of the stuff goes a long way. I massaged a tiny bit into my cuticles this morning and I have to say that I did notice an improvement. My nail beds typically get very dry through out the day and I often get hangnails. Not the case so far, very impressed. Plus, this is another major multitasker. It can be used for hair and other skin as well. Awesome.

– I CAN NOT WAIT to give the manicure booster a shot this weekend. I have the worst time with chipping nails. I’ll keep you all posted on the results.

Overall, I’m super happy with everything I got. Even though it wasn’t a surprise, the test tube is a great value. I know some people who get this on auto-delivery are sick of the usual “QVC brands” but seeing as this was my first one I was really excited about everything in it.

Get It: QVC is still offering the Spring New Beauty Test Tube on their website, but quantities are limited. Also, Ebates members get 2.5% cash back on QVC purchases.

Blush Mystery Beauty Box

21 Mar

Here’s another one I couldn’t resist. I’d heard good things about Blush.com’s last mystery box (they sold out in only a few hours!) so when I heard they had another one out I jumped on it.

blush march

The Products:

  • Snowkissed Cashmere Eyeshadow Palette from Skylark by Elle & Blair ($40)
  • Overshadow mineral eye shadow in “If you’re rich, I’m single” from theBalm ($15)
  • Rescue Restorative Shampoo (9 fl oz) ($16)
  • Rescue Restorative Conditioner (9 fl oz) ($18)
  • Hampton Sun Luxe Sport Lip Balm ($12)

Total Value: $101

Comes right in where they said it would and I got five full size products, awesome! Really the palette paid for the whole thing and everything else was icing on the cake.

Llwynog says…

Snowkissed Cashmere Eyeshadow Palette from Skylark by Elle & Blair – This palette really is beautiful and you can never have too many of them. How about a closer look?

The Snowkiss palette comes with six eyeshadows, a nice big highlighter, and a dual ended brush. The brush is pretty decent compared to what you might find in a lot of palettes. I was a little worried because I’d never heard of the brand but the swatches I did left me feeling pretty confident.

All of the eyeshadows have some shimmer except for Lace, which is matte. Lace is also quite pale, you can see from the photo that it barely show up on me, but would make a fantastic base to build the other colors from. My favorite is Ember, which is a deep red-brown with some coppery flecks. Its really beautiful and what a bummer I couldn’t really get a good photo. Its not a color I would typically pick for myself, same goes for Shiver, but both look quite nice. I’ll have to play around with them a bit.

The Satin Sparks highlighter is very light and not something I could really swatch but it has a nice, soft glowy effect.

theBalm Overshadow mineral eye shadow in “If you’re rich, I’m single” – a nice heavily pigmented mineral shadow in a flattering bronze shade. I used the tiniest amount for my swatch and was really surprised by the coverage.swat

Plus the packaging is super cute.

This one could easily become a go-to several times a week for me. I’d never tried anything from theBalm before but I’ve read lots of good reviews. So thrilled to get this full-size eyeshadow!

Rescue Restorative Shampoo & Conditioner – Havent tried these yet but how nice to get a big set like this. I have long, thick hair so I’ll be curious to see how these do for it. They smell nice!

Hampton Sun Luxe Sport Lip Balm SPF 30 – okay, yeah, its chapstick. But its “luxury” chapstick and it smells pretty good. Plus this is something I will *always* use.

Overall, I’m really pleased with this box! Everything will be used, which is key.

Bonus: My free gift with purchase from blush.com was their Dermstore brand Lip Quench, which sells for $12. It really does moisturize and adds a nice clear gloss.

and they also threw in a sample packet of Queen Bee Firming and Restoring serum. I probably will send this to the sample pile to give away later. It has royal jelly and is marketed towards aging skin, which I dont have just yet. Well, I mean, my skin is aging, but I’m still in my early 20’s and I’m not ready to worry about it. The full size bottle sells for $85, so my sample size would be valued at approximately $5.83, bringing the total box value to $118.83. Wee! Thank you blush.com!

As of the time of this writing, blush.com still has their Mystery Beauty Boxes available for purchase.

PLUS! Mr. Rebates members get 5% cashback on blush.com purchases!
